This 28-minute course is designed to provide professionals with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to assess and mitigate condensation risks in building assemblies using ISO 13788. The course focuses on leveraging the Glaser method to evaluate vapor diffusion and condensation potential, ensuring construction systems are optimized for durability and occupant comfort.
Course Structure:
This two-session course begins with an introduction to the concept of dew point assessments and the ISO 13788 standard. Participants will learn the basics of the Glaser method, which evaluates surface and interstitial condensation risks under steady-state conditions. The first session covers setting up simulations, defining material layers, and configuring external and internal conditions such as temperature, humidity, and ventilation levels.
The second session progresses to running simulations and interpreting results, focusing on key metrics like vapor pressure, saturation points, and temperature distribution. Participants will gain insights into identifying condensation-prone areas, understanding drying-out cycles, and analyzing the impact of material properties on system performance. The course also explores strategies for improving designs, such as incorporating air-tight membranes, optimizing material configurations, and testing worst-case scenarios to enhance system reliability.
