A Space represents a thermal zone typically conditioned for occupant comfort. A Default Space is also created and adopted in all conditioned zones within the model when a Project is created. However, more advanced models will need multiple Spaces that can have a different set of inputs associated with them. These inputs include 'Schedules', 'Building Classes', 'Occupants', 'Internal Loads', 'Infiltration', 'Thermostats', 'HVAC', and 'Sizing'. Where a diversity of Spaces exist in one building, they can be distributed across the model using .
To adjust the default Space, navigate to 'Spaces' and select 'Space Default'. Next, tab through each input until all updates have been completed for the Space and click 'Save'.
To add a new Space, navigate to 'Spaces' and select '+', next to the 'Tag' label. Next, select the 'Building Class' associated with the Space and then the 'Tag'. To complete this, you will need to have created a 'Tag'. In this example, 'Tag' called Bedroom, has been created and applied to a Zone. Next, tab through each input until all updates have been completed for the Space and click 'Save'.
A sub-space is a 'child' space that inherits settings from its 'parent' space. This convenience method allows for a workflow where some settings can be modified, but those not modified on the sub-space are inherited from the parent space.
To add a Sub-space, navigate to 'Spaces' and select a Space. Next, hover over the Space and select 'Create Sub-space'. Then, nominate a 'Tag' that has previously been created and click 'Select'.
