"Upfront carbon" or "embodied carbon" refers to the greenhouse gas emissions that are generated during the manufacturing, transportation, and construction of building materials, as well as during the construction process itself. It's called "Upfront" or "embodied" because these emissions are produced before the building is used. They are "Upfront" or "embodied" in the building itself.
Our Upfront Carbon approach is unique, where we utilise workflows for walls, roofs, floors and glazing systems to automate the stated carbon content. A typical wall, roof, floor and glazing system is modelled in less than 10 minutes, including simulations and results.
π Scope and Boundaries
Processes and life cycle stages that are included in the calculation of carbon emissions.
π§ Products (A1 - A3)
Processes from the extraction of raw materials through to manufacturing the final product that's ready for delivery.
β Construction (A4 - A5)
Transportation of construction materials to the site and the process of constructing the building.
βΊ In-Use (B4)
Replacement of building components during the use phase of a building.
ποΈ End-of-Use (C2)
Transportation of deconstructed or demolished building materials from the site to a waste processing facility.
