Packaged Terminal Heat Pump (Split System)

The packaged terminal heat pump - is commonly called a 'split system'. This type of air-conditioning unit serves one zone and consists of an outdoor unit for heat rejection and an indoor unit for conditioning the zone air. It comprises the following:

Sizing

Sizing Method

Specify the Sizing Method by choosing between Autosize or Manual. If Manual is selected, the user must provide all sizing parameters.

Supply Air Flow Rate – Cooling

Specify the Supply Air Flow Rate – Cooling as the numeric field defining the supply air flow rate leaving the heat pump in cubic meters per second when the DX cooling coil is operational.

Supply Air Flow Rate – Heating

Specify the Supply Air Flow Rate – Heating as the numeric field defining the supply air flow rate leaving the heat pump in cubic meters per second when the DX heating coil and/or supplemental heater are operational.

Supply Air Flow Rate - No Load

Specify the Supply Air Flow Rate - No Load as the numeric field defining the supply air flow rate leaving the heat pump in cubic meters per second when neither cooling nor heating is required. This occurs when DX coils and supplemental heater are off, but the supply air fan operates. This field is only used when the heat pump’s supply air fan operating mode schedule specifies continuous fan operation.

Outdoor Air Flow Rate – Cooling

Specify the Outdoor Air Flow Rate – Cooling as the numeric field defining the outdoor air flow rate through the heat pump in cubic meters per second when the DX cooling coil is operational. Note that the Cooling Outdoor Air Flow Rate is fixed and cannot change during the simulation.

Outdoor Air Flow Rate – Heating

Specify the Outdoor Air Flow Rate – Heating as the numeric field defining the outdoor air flow rate through the heat pump in cubic meters per second when the DX heating coil and/or supplemental heater are operational. Note that the Heating Outdoor Air Flow Rate is fixed and cannot change during the simulation.

Outdoor Air Flow Rate - No Load

Specify the Outdoor Air Flow Rate - No Load as the numeric field defining the outdoor air flow rate through the heat pump in cubic meters per second when neither cooling nor heating is required. This is when DX coils and supplemental heater are off, but the supply air fan operates. Note that the outdoor air flow rate when no cooling/heating is needed is fixed and cannot change during the simulation.
