Heating Device – Four Pipe Heat Pump (Heating)

Sizing

Reference COP

Specify the Reference COP, which denotes the coefficient of performance and is defined as the load side energy transfer divided by the power input, measured in dimensionless units of [W/W].

Sizing Factor

Specify the Sizing Factor, allowing the user to scale the sizing of this unit compared to the plant-determined autosized flow and heat capacity.

Sizing Method

Specify the Sizing Method, choosing from Autosize or Manual; Manual sizing requires completion of all numerical fields with valid entries.

Source Reference Flow Rate

Specify the Source Reference Flow Rate, which serves as the nominal flow request for this heat pump unit during the simulation, with units in [m3/s].

Load Reference Flow rate

Specify the Load Reference Flow rate for simulation purposes, measured in [m3/s].

Reference Capacity

Specify the Reference Capacity, representing cooling capacity for a cooling companion heat pump and heating capacity for a heating companion heat pump, with units in [W].

Hot Water Loop Pump Rated Power Consumption

Specify the Hot Water Loop Pump Rated Power Consumption, representing the pump's design power consumption in Watts. This field provides the option for autosizing.

Hot Water Loop Pump Rated Flow Rate

Specify the Hot Water Loop Pump Rated Flow Rate, indicating the pump's design maximum volume flow rate in cubic meters per second. This field also allows for autosizing.

Hot Water Loop Pump Min. Flow Rate

Specify the Hot Water Loop Pump Min. Flow Rate denotes the minimum volume flow rate during variable flow capacity operation in cubic meters per second. This field is autosizable, and when set to autosize, the value in the Design Minimum Flow Rate Sizing Factor is used to scale the minimum flow rate as a fraction of the Design Maximum Flow Rate.

Hot Water Pump

Pump Speed Control

Specify the Pump Speed Control, choosing between Variable Speed or Constant Speed for the hot water pump.

Pump Rated Head

Specify the Pump Rated Head, setting the pump head pressure in Pascals for the hot water pump.

Pump Design Min. Flow Rate Fraction

Specify the Pump Design Min. Flow Rate Fraction, determining the minimum flow rate as the product of this sizing factor and the Design Maximum Flow Rate.

Pump Motor Efficiency

Specify the Pump Motor Efficiency, indicating the pump motor's efficiency in decimal form (0 = 0%, 1 = 100%).

Pump Control Type

Specify the Pump Control Type, choosing between Continuous or Intermittent. Set maximum and minimum flow rates as physical limits for a variable-speed pump. If the pump operates intermittently with no load, it can shut down. In other conditions, whether the loop has a load or the pump operates intermittently or continuously, it will select a flow between the minimum and maximum limits to meet demand.

Pump Fraction of Motor Inefficiencies to Fluid Stream

Specify the Pump Fraction of Motor Inefficiencies to Fluid Stream, a numeric field indicating the pump motor's fraction of power loss to the fluid.

Pump Design Power Sizing Method

Specify the Pump Design Power Sizing Method, choosing between Power Per Flow and Power Per Flow Per Pressure. If Power Per Flow is selected, calculate the pump's Design Power Consumption using the sizing factor from the input field Design Electric Power per Unit Flow Rate. For Power Per Flow Per Pressure, use the sizing factor from the Design Shaft Power per Unit Flow Rate Per Unit Head.

Pump Design Elec. Power / Flow Rate / Pressure

Specify the Pump Design Elec. Power / Flow Rate / Pressure is an input used when Design Power Consumption is set to autosize, and the Design Power Sizing Method is Power Per Flow Per Pressure. This sets the efficiency of the impeller and drive assembly when calculating pump power consumption for the design flow rate, motor efficiency, and pump head. If omitted, the default value is 1.282051 W/((m3/s)-Pa).

Pump Design Elec. Power / Flow Rate

Specify the Pump Design Elec. Power / Flow Rate is an input used when Design Power Consumption is set to autosize, and the Design Power Sizing Method is Power Per Flow. This allows setting the efficiency of the pumping system's power consumption using only the design flow rate. If omitted, the default value is 348701.1 W/(m3/s).
