This 64-minute course is part of a comprehensive series designed to guide professionals through the fundamentals of daylight modelling using the Speckel platform. Focused on setting up models, running simulations, and interpreting results, this course provides participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to assess daylight performance in building projects effectively.
Course Structure:
The course begins with an introduction to the basics of daylight modelling, explaining the importance of natural light in building design and how to use Speckel to set up a basic daylight model. Participants will learn how to navigate Speckelβs interface to configure models, set objectives, and understand the key indices used in daylight assessments. This section also introduces Radiance, the validated lighting simulation engine used within Speckel, and explains its role in ensuring accurate simulation results.
Next, the course delves into the practical aspects of setting up and customising daylight models. Participants will explore the different components of the model, including grid settings, surface properties like reflectivity and specularity, and simulation parameters. The course emphasizes the ability to customise models to suit specific project requirements, such as adjusting grid sizes, modifying surface characteristics, and ensuring accurate representation of unique spaces within a building.
The final segment covers interpreting simulation results and generating reports. Participants will learn how to analyse the outcomes of their daylight simulations, identify areas where daylight performance does not meet the desired criteria, and suggest design modifications to address these issues. The course also guides participants on how to create comprehensive reports in Speckel, including customising the appearance of results, adding additional project information, and exporting data for further analysis or presentation.
Key Learning Outcomes:
Understand and apply the fundamentals of daylight modelling to assess natural light in building designs.
Gain proficiency in setting up and customising daylight models using Speckelβs interface, with a focus on grid settings, surface properties, and simulation parameters.
Develop skills in interpreting simulation results to identify and address design issues, optimising daylight performance.
Learn to generate detailed reports that effectively communicate simulation outcomes and compliance with daylight standards.
Acquire confidence in using Speckel for comprehensive daylight assessments, from initial model setup to final reporting.
Course Completion:
By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with a thorough understanding of daylight modelling processes, enabling them to confidently apply these techniques to their projects. Those who complete the course and achieve an 80% pass mark on the final quiz will be awarded a Certificate of Completion, demonstrating their proficiency in daylight modelling and reporting.
