This 14-minute course is designed to provide professionals with essential knowledge and practical skills to evaluate and optimise shading strategies in building designs. The course focuses on leveraging Speckelβs advanced simulation tools to assess shading impacts, refine designs, and improve thermal performance across various seasons.
Course Structure:
This single-session course begins with an introduction to the shading impact feature in Speckel, exploring its application for designing and assessing shading strategies. Participants will learn to configure models in the designer mode, define shading geometries, and use tags for efficient distribution across multiple windows.
The course delves into calculating shading coefficients to evaluate the effectiveness of shading designs under specific seasonal conditions. Participants will explore workflows for both local and distributed shading strategies, assess solar loads, and identify design improvements to balance shading performance across summer and winter months.
Additionally, the course provides guidance on integrating shading impact assessments with other thermal performance metrics, offering insights into reducing overheating risks and improving overall comfort.
Key Learning Outcomes:
Understand the fundamentals of shading strategies and their impact on building performance.
Configure shading designs using Speckel, including local and tagged shading strategies.
Analyse shading coefficients to evaluate shading effectiveness under seasonal conditions.
Identify design improvements by adjusting shading parameters, such as projection depth and distribution.
Learn how to balance shading performance for summer cooling and winter solar gain.
Course Completion:
By the end of this course, participants will have the skills to design and assess shading strategies effectively, improving thermal comfort and energy efficiency in their projects. Participants who complete the course and achieve an 80% pass mark on the final quiz will receive a Certificate of Completion, demonstrating their expertise in advanced shading impact analysis.
