This 70-minute course is part of a specialized series designed to help professionals navigate the complexities of building fabric compliance using Speckel. Focusing on the Part J4 provisions of the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022, the course provides detailed instruction on setting up, modeling, and analyzing results to ensure thermal performance and energy efficiency in commercial buildings.
Course Structure:
The course begins by introducing Part J4 and its role in determining building fabric performance under the NCC. Participants will learn how to set up a basic model within Speckel, configure building parameters such as class types, climate zones, and window-to-wall ratios, and understand how these configurations impact compliance.
The second segment focuses on running simulations for different building classes. Participants will explore how to input wall, roof, and glazing details, verify the accuracy of inputs, and adjust specifications as needed. The course highlights the importance of interpreting results, including thermal performance, insulation values, and solar heat gain coefficients, to meet compliance standards.
In the final section, participants will dive into advanced analysis and reporting. This module covers how to generate detailed compliance reports, focusing on thermal envelopes, roof and glazing performance, and solar shading calculations. Participants will also learn to adjust and customize reports for submission to regulatory bodies.
Key Learning Outcomes:
Understand and apply the Part J4 building fabric provisions for NCC compliance.
Gain proficiency in setting up building models and inputting essential parameters in Speckel.
Develop skills in running simulations, interpreting results for wall, roof, and glazing systems, and understanding key metrics such as U-values and R-values.
Learn advanced analysis techniques, including thermal envelope evaluation and shading multiplier simulations.
Produce comprehensive, detailed compliance reports tailored to project-specific requirements.
Course Completion:
By the end of this course, participants will have a strong understanding of how to ensure building fabric compliance under Part J4. They will be able to confidently model, simulate, and report on the thermal performance of their projects. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who pass the final assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
