This 78-minute course is part of a comprehensive series designed to guide professionals through the intricacies of H1 compliance using Speckel. Focused on the H1 AS1 and VM1 methodologies, this course explores the Schedule Method, Calculation Method, and Modelling Method, providing participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to ensure their building designs meet New Zealand’s energy efficiency standards.
Course Structure:
The course begins with an introduction to the H1 Schedule Method, explaining how to use it to quickly determine if a building's design meets the basic energy performance requirements. Participants will learn how to navigate Speckel’s interface to run simulations, set up models, and interpret results, focusing on key elements like glazing area, skylights, and construction R-values.
Next, the course delves into the H1 Calculation Method, which offers more flexibility than the Schedule Method. Participants will learn how to compare the heat loss of a proposed building against a reference building using Speckel’s tools. The course emphasizes adjusting insulation values, interpreting heat loss equations, and making necessary design modifications to meet compliance.
The final segment covers the H1 Modelling Method, a more advanced approach that involves comparing the proposed building’s space heating and cooling loads against a theoretical reference building. This section highlights how to manage various factors like solar heat gain, thermal envelope setup, and climate data to optimize building performance and achieve compliance.
Key Learning Outcomes:
Understand and apply the H1 Schedule Method for quick energy performance assessments.
Gain proficiency in using the H1 Calculation Method to conduct detailed heat loss analysis and make informed design adjustments.
Explore the H1 Modelling Method, learning to model space heating and cooling loads and compare them against reference buildings.
Learn to effectively use Speckel’s interface for setting up, running, and interpreting simulations across all three methods.
Acquire the ability to produce detailed reports that can be presented to councils for compliance verification.
Course Completion:
By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with a thorough understanding of the H1 AS1 and VM1 compliance processes, enabling them to confidently apply these methods to their projects. For those who complete the course and achieve an 80% pass mark on the final quiz, a Certificate of Completion will be awarded.
